Media Policy

Gaenovium is a small event aimed exclusively at genealogy technologists. Most are highly educated, opinionated, and have no trouble expressing their opinions. Most have a personal or corporate blogs and a twitter account. Most carry a smartphone, tablet, laptop or combination of those.

Speakers should be able to present without unnecessary distractions.
Attendees should be able to share their experience on social media, but have to respect both copyright and the non-disclosure status of some items.

general

To a large extent, this media policy merely spells out the obvious. Many of the rules, guidelines and recommendations relate to each other, or overlap each other, and should cover most cases.
The organisation reserves the right to change this media policy and make decisions on the spot as it sees fit.

All interested parties are encouraged to stay up to date on developments by following Gaenovium on twitter and Google+.

authors

• Unauthorised use of the Gaenovium logo is prohibited.
• Speaker badges are exclusive to official speakers.
• We provide a page with images that may be used to illustrate articles about Gaenovium.
• Avoid mistakes. If you're not sure, ask permission.

intellectual property

• Respect copyright, intellectual property and the hard work of the speakers.
• Recording sessions in whole or in part, regardless of medium, is strictly prohibited.
• Do not capture, transmit or redistribute the syllabus.
• Clearly distinguish between quoting and paraphrasing.
• Wether quoting or paraphrasing, identify the speaker appropriately.

press

• Gaenovium is for genealogy technologists. There are no press passes.
• There are no official bloggers; all attendees have equal access.

phone usage

• We prefer that you turn incoming calls off, and expect you to set all alarms and alerts to vibrate.
• If you do need to take an urgent call, please leave the session first.
• We recommend that you bring your charger.

photography

• Do not photograph speakers without their permission.
• Do not take photographs during sessions.
• Do not use a flashlight.

social sharing

• We encourage the use social media to share your experience, and comment on it.
• The hashtag is #gaenovium.
• Do not share anything that's still under a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
• Use wisdom and restraint when sharing about non-public Betas.
• Respect the wishes of speakers limiting social sharing.
• Feel free to express agreement or disagreement.
• Disagree opinions, do not attack the opiner.
• Keep this policy in mind when choosing what to share.
• We recommend that you bring your charger.
